This project was completed in 11th grade Modern American History. Using propaganda from WWI, students were asked to mimic a piece that spoke to them, or created an entirely new piece of propaganda. Digital pictures were required to be in black/white and could not have more than 10% of their canvas colored with either red or blue. The completed images were paired with a 3-5 page research essay on the nature of propaganda during WWI. Unit instructional goals: Think critically about the message the government is promoting during WWI. Examine the images projected by the government, especially those of Germans, American families, and death. Analyze the effects of propaganda on the hearts and spirit of the American people.
